

The defense shown is the base defense WITHOUT the dexterity bonus. When you are being shown mercs to hire, the game lists the merc’s name and type, along with cost, defense & life. If you want a particular name for your merc, say you want an Act 2 offensive merc on Nightmare diff called Azrael, just keep revisiting town until the merc with the name you are after appears. The merc names are randomly assigned each time you visit the merc leader on each trip to town.
